How I Can Help

People come to therapy for different reasons. Sometimes there is a clear problem. At other times, you may simply know that something isn't working as well as it used to.

I provide practical, evidence based psychological support to help you understand what's happening, recognise the patterns that may be keeping it going, and work towards meaningful change.

First Responders

Confidential psychological support for police, paramedics, firefighters and other first responders dealing with trauma exposure, operational stress, burnout, workplace difficulties or the effects the job can have beyond the shift.

Busy Professionals

Flexible online psychology for people managing demanding careers, leadership responsibilities, workplace pressure, burnout and the difficulty of switching off.

Men

Straightforward, confidential psychological support for men navigating stress, relationships, separation, burnout, grief, anxiety and other difficult periods of life.

Adults Across Australia

Access a registered Australian psychologist wherever you live. Secure telehealth appointments are available to adults throughout Australia, allowing you to attend from home or another private place that suits you.

I’m Gareth Hobbs, a registered psychologist, founder of Zoom Psychology, and a Preferred Provider to the Western Australia Police Force. Based in Albany, Western Australia, I provide psychological therapy to adults across Australia via secure telehealth.

Since becoming a registered psychologist in 2010, I’ve worked with people experiencing anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, workplace stress and major life transitions. My approach is collaborative, practical and evidence-informed, helping people develop effective strategies while gaining insight into the deeper patterns shaping their thoughts, emotions and relationships.

Alongside my clinical work, I write the articles published on Zoom Psychology. My goal is to make psychology accessible without oversimplifying it, helping readers better understand themselves, their relationships and the challenges they face.

Outside of psychology, I’m a father. That experience has deepened my appreciation for the complexities of family life, separation and the emotional load many people carry quietly. I aim to create a space that feels calm, respectful and safe enough for genuine reflection and meaningful change.

Areas of practice

What I Can Help With

Psychological support for the concerns that can affect your wellbeing, relationships, work and everyday life.

Trauma

Trauma can affect the way you think, feel and respond long after a difficult experience has passed. Therapy provides a safe, evidence based approach to understanding what has happened and supporting recovery.

Low Mood & Depression

Depression is more than simply feeling sad. It can affect motivation, relationships, sleep, confidence and your ability to enjoy life. Therapy can help you understand what you're experiencing and begin moving forward.

Anxiety

Persistent worry, panic, overthinking and physical symptoms of anxiety can make everyday life exhausting. Therapy helps you develop practical strategies while understanding the patterns that keep anxiety going.

Stress & Burnout

When stress becomes chronic, it can affect both your mental and physical wellbeing. Therapy can help you manage life's demands more effectively while restoring balance and resilience.

Grief & Loss

Grief is a natural response to loss, but everyone experiences it differently. Whether you've lost a loved one, a relationship or an important part of your life, therapy provides support as you adjust and heal.

Relationship Difficulties

Relationships can be one of life's greatest sources of fulfilment and one of its greatest challenges. Therapy can help you better understand relationship patterns, improve communication and navigate difficult transitions.

Workplace Issues

Work can affect far more than your career. Whether you're experiencing conflict, bullying, high pressure, compassion fatigue or difficult workplace decisions, therapy offers practical support and perspective.

Self Esteem & Confidence

The way you see yourself influences every area of your life. Therapy can help you challenge unhelpful beliefs, develop greater self confidence and build a healthier relationship with yourself.

Life Transitions

Major life changes can bring uncertainty even when they're positive. Therapy provides support through transitions such as separation, retirement, career change, becoming a parent or adjusting to a new stage of life.

Sleep Difficulties

Poor sleep can affect mood, concentration, energy and overall wellbeing. Therapy can help identify the psychological factors contributing to sleep problems and support healthier sleep patterns.
